Design Process

From Picture to Product Follow the Design Process

Stage 1

Liz Clothier, Precious Monkey's Fashion Director, is constantly on the look-out for new directions, colours, shapes and styles and uses these fashion forward trends to inspire her jewellery designs.

Precious Monkey Jewellery focuses on original pieces that are versatile, unique and can be worn with many different outfits and for a variety of occasions. Liz ensures she successfully adapts the current trends into Precious Monkey's clean cut, timeless style.

Stage 2

Liz then sketches her initial ideas of new shapes that she is introducing into our collections.

The great thing about adding new shapes is that we can incorporate them into the existing collections as well as adding exciting, totally new pieces.

Stage 3

The sketches are then transformed into 3D wax form. Nigel Townsend, our Master Jeweller, uses his expertise to craft the detail of each new shape.

Once the waxes are complete, they are sent off to Birmingham, to our casters, to have initial moulds made.

Stage 4

We then recieve the first silver castings. At this stage we decide whether we need to amend the size, the texture or finish of the new shapes. These changes are made by hand and the shapes are then sent off to have final production moulds made.

These moulds are stored for us by our casters and used to produce each individual component of your jewellery when you place your order with Precious Monkey.

Stage 5

The final new shapes arrive, cast in sterling silver and solid gold. Liz then sits down and sketches out her ideas of the completed pieces of jewellery using the new shapes we have created.

These new pieces of jewellery will incorporate precious stones, beads and enamelled finishes where appropriate.

Stage 6

Each new jewellery design is hand-made and we then ensure that the design is functional and works correctly by test-wearing the pieces.

This involves;

  • Varying chain lengths, weights and types.
  • Interchanging sizes of the newly introduced shapes.
  • Introducing a "Hint of Gold" where appropriate.
  • Ensuring that we are always offering you the best value for your money.

Stage 7

Each newly designed piece of jewellery is then hand-made and finished here in the UK, ready for photography and publishing on the Precious Monkey Jewellery website

...then the whole process starts again with Liz's latest ideas.
